Footage released by the City Hall of Americana-near Campinas in the interior of São Paulo-shows the progress of works at Americana Municipal Airport “Augusto de Oliveira Salvação”, which is undergoing modernisation and an expansion of its operational capacity.

Drone footage shows fast-moving works

Captured from the air by a drone, the video indicates that the project-started less than a month ago-is moving quickly. Crews are preparing the ground along the side of the runway so it can be widened, and are also filling a height difference at runway threshold 12.

Runway closures and operating limits (DECEA)

According to information checked by AEROIN in the Department of Airspace Control (DECEA) system, the aerodrome’s runway is being closed to take-offs and landings every day between 19:00 and 08:00, from 5 May to 5 July.

Expanded capability for Code 2C aircraft

With the upgraded infrastructure, the airport will be authorised to handle general aviation aircraft up to Code 2C. This includes larger executive jets and the twin-turboprop ATR 42.

The first phase is budgeted at R$ 16 million, funded by the National Civil Aviation Fund (FNAC), linked to the Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor). The service order was signed in 2025 by Mayor Chico Sardelli and the then MPor minister, Silvio Costa Filho. Funding for the works was brokered by federal deputy Cezinha de Madureira, following an indication from councillor Levi Rossi.

Current runway dimensions and approvals

Last year, detailed design plans were produced and approved by Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac). Permission for construction to begin was issued at the end of April this year.

At present, runway 12/30 measures 1,100 metres in length and 18 metres in width. It has an asphalt surface and is certified for day and night visual operations.

Scope of the first phase of construction

This initial stage includes widening the take-off and landing runway, restoring the runway strip and aircraft apron, drainage works, and the installation of Runway End Safety Areas (RESAs). It also covers new airfield lighting, horizontal and vertical signage, an illuminated beacon and windsock. A Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) system will be fitted at both thresholds.

The contract is being carried out by the Consórcio Aeroporto Americana, which won the tender and is made up of Talude Construções S.A. and Converd Construção Civil Ltda. Americana City Hall’s Department of Works and Urban Services (Sosu) is overseeing and inspecting delivery.
