Work on the new Santa Rosa-RS Airport is moving ahead at speed. Construction of the new runway has reached 65% completion, and the passenger terminal-now 35% complete-is also progressing, with further stages already under way. This investment is the largest infrastructure project in the municipality and is intended to ready Santa Rosa to handle regular flights with greater safety and increased capacity.

The new terminal will cover more than 1,500 square metres. The foundations, floor slab, columns, steel beams and the entire roof structure have already been finished. Teams are currently focused on stormwater drainage, electrical and plumbing installations, wall finishes, and fitting the glass frames.

From July, additional phases are scheduled to begin, including closing the sides with metal panels, installing the roof skylight, and adding canopies to the main façades.

Progress on the runway

On the runway, work continues across several fronts. Crews are preparing the base for paving, carrying out milling, building the power facility that will supply the airport, installing drainage, and planting grass to protect the soil. Next steps include laying the asphalt layer, completing markings, installing runway lighting, fitting equipment that supports take-offs and landings, and running the final operational tests on all systems.

Preparations for operations and compliance

Discussions with airlines and aviation-related bodies are also continuing to prepare for the start of operations. The plan is for a modern facility capable of accommodating larger aircraft, with capacity for up to 185 passengers.

Mayor Anderson Mantei emphasises that, even with a challenging economic backdrop, the project timetable remains secure: “Even with the difficulties in the national economy and the impacts of droughts in Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Rosa is keeping its finances balanced, its commitments up to date, and the funds for the airport guaranteed. Here we will have a new airport, with a beginning, middle and end. The work will not stop. We will keep moving forward and building an ever-better city“.

Technical oversight of the project continues to be carried out daily by an airport specialist engineer, ensuring the works meet civil aviation standards. This support helps streamline the process of authorising the runway for operation once construction is finished.
