Environmental licences granted for the Ernesto Ruaro Municipal Airport expansion

The Primavera do Leste-MT City Hall, through its Municipal Secretariat for Economic Development-which oversees the management of Ernesto Ruaro Municipal Airport-has achieved a key milestone in the plan to expand the airport’s infrastructure. The municipality has been granted the Preliminary Environmental Licence (LP) and the Installation Licence (LI), two essential documents required to keep the airport expansion process moving forward.

The environmental licensing procedure began in 2025. Until then, Ernesto Ruaro Municipal Airport did not have environmental licensing in place. Since last year, the Municipal Secretariat for the Environment has led a taskforce bringing together multiple municipal departments to compile the required technical documentation and submit the process to the State Secretariat for the Environment of Mato Grosso (Sema-MT).

Following months of technical work and document review, the licences were issued, representing a decisive stage in progressing the expansion project.

Next steps: state assessment and funding

With this phase completed, the municipality can proceed with the next formal steps. The project will be forwarded-together with the environmental licences-to the relevant state bodies for evaluation, and the search for funding to deliver the construction works will then begin.

Securing the environmental licences is one of the most important stages in making the airport expansion viable, ensuring that any future interventions are carried out in line with environmental legislation and all legal requirements.

Ernesto Ruaro Municipal Airport and the city’s logistics strategy

The expansion of Ernesto Ruaro Municipal Airport forms part of the municipal administration’s wider plan to strengthen Primavera do Leste’s logistics infrastructure, positioning the city to keep pace with economic growth, attract new investment, and improve regional connectivity.

With this progress, Primavera do Leste takes another step towards modernising its airport, establishing the foundations for a more efficient infrastructure that is better prepared to meet the development needs of the municipality and the wider region.
