Elon Musk’s The Boring Company has said it has begun construction on three passenger tunnels, with the full cost covered by the company.

What the three projects will do

The schemes are the NOLA Loop in New Orleans, the Ravens Loop in Baltimore, and the University Hills Loop in Dallas. Each one is designed to move passengers by car along underground routes.

Other routes under consideration

The Boring Company is also weighing up two additional tunnels: the Hendersonville Utility Tunnel in Tennessee and the Morgan's Wonderland Tunnel in San Antonio. Whether they go ahead depends on the outcome of a feasibility review and securing all required permits. If they are approved, the company says it would finance construction of these tunnels as well.

These moves follow The Boring Company’s broader approach to building underground transport infrastructure intended to cut surface congestion and speed up passenger travel in major US cities.
