At a meeting of the Regional Government Council in Funchal, chaired by the Social Democrat Miguel Albuquerque, the executive approved a set of measures covering social housing, energy support and institutional initiatives.
Social housing in São Gonçalo
In a statement, the executive notes: “The project will be executed by [the public company] IHM – Investimentos Habitacionais da Madeira, within the scope of its responsibilities for promoting social housing and managing the region's housing stock,” it says in a statement.
The government highlights that the plan to construct 27 flats in the parish of São Gonçalo strengthens its “commitment to social cohesion, support for families and the development of affordable housing solutions in the region”.
Gás-Solidário RAM programme extended to 2026
The council also agreed to continue the Gás-Solidário RAM programme for 2026, which is intended to assist families facing economic vulnerability.
As the executive explains, “The measure aims to share the costs of acquiring domestic gas, both in cylinders and piped gas, promoting greater equity among consumers,” adding that the programme’s maximum amount this year is €973,676, a sum already included in the budget of the Regional Directorate of Energy, overseen by the Regional Secretariat for Equipment and Infrastructure.
Other approvals: Autonomy insignia and Invest Madeira funding
Among the additional decisions, the Regional Government Council signed off the proposed legislative decree setting out the legal framework for the Honorary Insignia of Prestige – 50 Years of Autonomy.
It also authorised a programme contract with Invest Madeira for Internationalisation and Investment, establishing the mechanism for financial cooperation between the parties to fund its activity, in the amount of €1 million.
