Fixing a screw into drywall takes more care than into masonry, because the board is hollow and the load ends up concentrated in a small area. Before you try to make do, work out where there is real structure and when the right wall plug is essential.

When you drive a screw straight into the sheet, it is gripping only the plasterboard itself-a lightweight material used for internal walls and ceilings. With very light loads it may feel secure at first, but the tear-out appears once there is continuous weight on the fixing.
