Metrobus works change access to HUC and outpatient consultations from Tuesday
Construction linked to the metrobus will require changes from Tuesday to the access routes for the Hospitais da Universidade de Coimbra (HUC) and the outpatient consultation area, Metro Mondego has said.
From then on, access to the HUC and to outpatient consultations will always be via Avenida Bissaya Barreto and Praceta Mota Pinto. It will no longer be possible to reach the outpatient consultations using Rua Afonso Romão (the connecting road to the internal ring road and to Coimbra’s Paediatric Hospital), according to Metro Mondego in a press statement sent to the Lusa news agency.
Roadworks at the north entrance and one-way traffic
The change follows resurfacing work at the HUC’s north entrance, between Rua Aníbal de Lima and the roundabout on Rua Afonso Romão. This is the section currently being used as the route to the outpatient consultations. Metro Mondego noted that this stretch will now have traffic only “in the outbound direction”.
Expected duration, pedestrian routes and navigation apps
Metro Mondego added that the works in this area are expected to last about a month. “As it is not possible to keep all the existing pedestrian routes, pedestrians should follow the on-site signage, which will indicate the appropriate places to cross,” the statement said.
The press note also recommends using navigation apps such as Waze or Google Maps, which provide up-to-date information on the temporary changes caused by the metrobus works.
Metrobus operation and the hospital line schedule
The metrobus (an articulated bus running on a dedicated corridor) is already operating between Lousã and Coimbra. The hospital line, where this construction is taking place, is expected to be completed in early 2027.
