Award ceremony in Madrid
Bento Aires, President of the Order of Engineers – Northern Region (OERN), was honoured on Monday with the Medal of Honour from Spain’s College of Civil Engineers, Canals and Ports (CICCP). The presentation took place in Madrid, placing the Portuguese engineer among the most influential figures in Iberian engineering.

The Medal of Honour is one of the most significant distinctions awarded to professionals who have carried out meritorious work, helping to enhance the standing and reputation of the profession.

In a statement, OERN stresses that the award “recognises a career marked by leadership, integrity and a commitment to the public interest, affirming Bento Aires as one of the most influential voices in engineering across the Iberian space”.
Bento Aires’ career and previous distinctions
Bento Aires holds a degree in Civil Engineering and is a visiting lecturer at Porto Business School (PBS). In 2024, he received the Colexial Merit Medal from the Galicia branch of the College of Civil Engineers, Canals and Ports, and he served as Treasurer of the World Council of Civil Engineers.
Leadership at OERN since 2022
He has led the Order of Engineers – Northern Region since 2022. Last year, he was re-elected after securing 89.4% of the votes cast, from an electorate of around 19,000 voters.
